As someone with a strong connection to my Asian identity, I am excited to share with you a book design project that I completed as part of a graduate history class assignment. For this project, we were tasked with selecting a theme that we felt was missing from the history of traditional graphic design, choosing ten related articles, and designing a book that would showcase our findings. Drawing on my cultural heritage, I chose to focus on the theme of Chinese and Chinese character typography.

What drew me to this subject was the realization that the rich tradition and wisdom of Chinese character typography has not been adequately incorporated into contemporary design practice. I discovered that the logic of current computer software is based on the Latin character system, which has led to a neglect of the Chinese typographic system in design education.

With this in mind, my book aims to bridge this gap by exploring the history of Chinese typography and reconstructing local Chinese typographic thinking within a modern design context. Through extensive research and careful curation of articles, I have sought to highlight the unique beauty and complexity of Chinese typography, while also considering its contemporary relevance and potential.

The design of the book itself reflects the essence of the subject matter, with a clean and minimalist layout that allows the typography to shine. Through thoughtful consideration of color, composition, and font choice, I have strived to create a visually striking and cohesive book that showcases the intricacy and significance of Chinese typography.

Overall, this project has been a labor of love, and I have invested countless hours in researching, designing, and editing this book. I hope that it serves as a valuable resource for designers and typography enthusiasts, and encourages greater appreciation for the beauty and importance of Chinese typography in the modern design world.
